Ancient Paths

They were on a pathway leading to the pleasures of sin. The sins of unlawful sex and drugs, a carefree self-centered life only leads to a generation of stressed out people and misery.  What turns out to be pleasure for the moment causes years of mental anguish behind a “forced smile”. To get rid of this mental anguish we don’t make a U-turn back to God, but try another sin! Go down another false pathway.
Isn’t it time to “stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is, and walk in it” (6:16). If we want that “rest for your souls” result, then we must choose the ancient paths.
In Jeremiah’s day, the ancient paths were the words of God, but they would “not listen to My words”, “my Law” (Jer. 6:19). They chose a different path than what God had said, and they paid the terrible consequences. Read the book of Jeremiah to see the fire and destruction of that generation.

In Jesus’ day, that generation also would not walk in the ancient paths.  Jesus, "began to denounce the cities in which most of His   miracles were done, because they did not repent (Matthew 11:20). But Jesus still called them, “Come to Me, all  who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.  “Take My yoke upon you and  learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and  YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. “For  My yoke is  easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30).
Let us learn why Jesus never sinned, never took the spiritual short cut. Jesus walked the ancient path and calls us to join him. It was a path that brings us to God, that we might finally come to know God. Where does the path you walk lead? What is the purpose and point of your life? Jesus says, “No one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father  except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.” (Matt. 11:27). Get on that ancient pathway to God, following the son of God, Jesus.                  DP
